Unique and distinct are two words for Kotare Wines, made with grapes from a single vineyard in Marlborough, the main wine region of New Zealand.
Kotare Wines are made by the Riversleigh Estate, started in 1998 by two friends who met while farming in Scotland. Their Kotare label honours the Maori name for the Sacred Kingfisher, a native bird attracted to Gibsons creek which runs throughout their 86 acre (35ha) vineyard in the Wairau Valley. The long, warm autumn days enjoyed there, along with cool nights and varying soil types, create the right conditions to grow grapes of the highest quality.
Sustainable New Zealand winegrowing principles are followed and Kotare Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wines, all produced exclusively for the international market, are certified annually by the NZ Institute of Wine.
